Sphynx cats might look unusual with their wrinkly, hairless skin, but they are one of the most affectionate and outgoing cat breeds you will ever find. They are natural-born performers who love showing off and making people laugh. Despite having no fur, Sphynx cats actually need regular baths because oils build up on their warm skin — they are one of the few cats who can enjoy bath time!
Sphynx cats were first bred in Toronto, Canada in 1966 when a hairless kitten was born to a regular domestic cat by a surprise genetic mutation. Today they are loved worldwide for their extraordinary, alien-like appearance and their incredibly warm, people-loving personalities.
Do not let their wrinkles fool you — Sphynx cats are not actually completely bald. If you look very closely, you can see a fine layer of soft peach fuzz on their skin, like the skin of a peach! They feel absolutely amazing to hold, and they will happily sit on your lap or drape themselves across your shoulders like a living scarf because they adore warmth and closeness.
