All About the British Shorthair 📖

British Shorthair cats have the most incredibly dense and plush fur that feels like soft velvet when you stroke it. They are calm, confident cats who are fiercely loyal but also like having their own space — they prefer sitting beside you rather than on your lap, like a cool, independent best friend. British Shorthairs are one of the oldest cat breeds in the world, with a history going back to ancient Rome!

British Shorthair cats were brought to Britain by Roman soldiers over 2,000 years ago to keep mice away from their food stores. Over centuries they developed their stocky, muscular bodies and that incredibly thick, plush coat to survive British winters.

These cats are famous for being wonderfully patient and unflappable — almost nothing startles them or bothers them. They are not lap cats, but they will always be nearby, watching over you with their big round copper or golden eyes. British Shorthairs tend to live exceptionally long lives, often reaching their 18th or even 20th birthday!
