All About the American Shorthair 📖
American Shorthair cats are the all-round perfect family pet — they are healthy, adaptable, gentle with children, and get along beautifully with dogs and other cats. They have strong, muscular bodies, and their dense coats come in over 80 different color and pattern combinations, which means no two American Shorthairs look exactly alike! They are independent enough to entertain themselves but always happy when you want to play.
American Shorthair cats are one of the healthiest and longest-living cat breeds around — it is not unusual for them to live all the way to 20 years old! Their strong immune systems and sturdy builds come from centuries of surviving in the wild before being welcomed into American homes.
These cats are the perfect middle ground — not too lazy, not too wild, not too needy, not too aloof. They love playtime and will happily chase a wand toy for ages, but they are also completely happy curled up near you while you read or watch TV. American Shorthairs have been a beloved part of American families for over 400 years, and it is easy to understand why!
